Zynga Files Virtual Currency Patent

Zynga, the developer of Mafia Wars and Farmville (and recent recipient of hundreds of millions of Google dollars), has filed a patent application to make non-refundable cash-based in-game currency purchases the company’s exclusive right. The patent application is for forms of currency that cannot be “cashed-out”–thereby supposedly protecting it from online gambling regulations.
