There was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal this morning about the various companies competing to score social media influence. Ratings such as Klout, PeerIndex, and Twitalizer all have popped up over the last year and all use secret algorithms to gauge social impact.
Just as we saw with search engine rankings, there are folks attempting to decipher the algorithms and game the system. Some well-know twittering “stars” are in a cut-throat competition for the highest rank.
